My baby is in school and already has snot

It does not fail: if your baby goes to nursery school it is very likely that I have already started to runny nose as a consequence of having appropriated one of the viruses that circulate in the environment.

The seasonal colds in the fall are often minor and subside quickly as children face the start of the school season with strengthened defenses after a quiet summer with no illnesses to deal with. However, the cold and rigors of winter will soon come, and we must take precautions.

Getting a flu shot is one of those precautions. The seasonal flu vaccination campaign, is especially indicated for risk groups. In addition to the elderly, everyone with a chronic disease related to the heart or lungs should be vaccinated. Pregnant women are also included in these groups considered at risk and the recommendation for all of them is to get the vaccine.

Vaccine Protection Against Seasonal Flu it also extends to children, with the exception of children under 6 months. The recommendation is that all children older than 6 months should be vaccinated to avoid possible complications from the flu, since serious complications from the influenza virus, which is the flu, are more common in children younger than 2 years and generally, most children under the age of 5 need medical attention during illness. Children with chronic health problems, such as asthma and diabetes, are at high risk of developing serious complications.

Therefore, in addition, all adults who are in contact with children (caregivers, teachers, fathers and mothers ...) should also be vaccinated to avoid transmitting the influenza virus to children. In the case of contracting the flu and being in contact with babies and children, it is advisable to use a mask, wash your hands frequently and avoid sneezing or coughing around children.

If you are a nursing mother and you have the flu, it is convenient to express your milk so that someone else can give it to your baby. Although it is difficult that through breast milk you can transmit the virus to your baby, the close contact that you both maintain during breastfeeding, can promote contagion. In general, anyone with symptoms of fever should not care for or feed a newborn or infant.

You cannot get the flu from a flu shot or flu shot. The injectable flu vaccine contains killed (inactivated) viruses, and the nasal spray flu vaccine uses a live, weakened virus instead of a killed virus, and you cannot get the flu from these types of vaccine. Nevertheless, some children may have a low-grade fever for a day or two after the injection. If you have more severe symptoms or if they last more than two days, you should call your pediatrician.
